The Capacity to recover quickly from difficulties.
We were fortunate enough to attend the Women of Influence Speaker Series last week where one of the key speakers was Dr. Lucy Hone on the topic of resilience. Compelling at the time, we weren't to know that her TED talk would become so applicable at 11.59pm last night. Lucy suggests that their are three main strategies for resilience;
Shit happens – suffering is part of life. When the tough times come suffering is part of human existence, knowing this stops you feeling discriminated against when life gets difficult.
Chose where you put your attentions – focus on things you can change and accept what you can’t.
Is what I’m doing helping, or harming me? This mantra puts you back in the drivers seat, it gives you some control over the decisions your making.
Christchurch is a city of resilient people. Together we have made it through the earthquakes and the first Covid-19 outbreak – we will make it through this lockdown also.
